Linguists Children
I watch a television programme recently- of a Canadian born lady who moved to the nation of Japan, and there..?
took up the Teaching trade, instructing the children of that poor, savage, and heathen country in the language of God and the King James Bible. Yet, when she narrated, her English, though undoubtedly very good, was slow, deliberate, even, and lacking in any tone what-so-ever, making her speech seem stilted, artificial, and mechanical as a voice produced by a machine for the purpose of repeating the same thing over and over again over the telephone.
It is truly fascinating to hear it, and it has lead me to wonder, is there a technical term in the jargon of the linguist to describe this regression in speech?
It’s not regression since that implies returning to something which existed before.
It’s simply monotone.
