Language Disorders In Children
In a mutlicutural family, is it possible to teach 3 languages to a new born?
My fiance ‘s mother tongue is arabic, I am French and we live in US. Do you think it would be realistic to want to teach the 3 languages to our children, without risks? And if you find it possible, how should it be done in order to avoid any learning disorders for our children?
babies and toddlers are like sponges. you can teach them so much! but with learning 3 languages at once, it could delay communication for them. not in a learning disorder way, but just they may not speak understandably as soon as other kids because they are working through 3 different accents and tongue movements. why don’t you start with english and french and when your child can communicate basic needs well enough (maybe at 2 or 3) start with the arabic. it’s not too late to start them at 3, but at least you know they will be able to speak to you in SOME language.
