Multiple language subtitles at the same time?

I am dating someone who speaks a different language than me (natively. obviously we can communicate). When we are trying to watch a movie in a foreign language, we often can’t because one or the other of us can’t understand the other person’s language well enough to follow the movies. Is there some kind of way to have more than one subtitle at the same time on a DVD? Say we want to watch a French film- can we have English and Japanese subtitles simultaneously? Also, is there somewhere in the United States to get Japanese subtitled films?

That would be an neat thing to have – be able to display mutliple subtitles. But unfortunately, no DVD for the regions of USA and Canada allows for that to happen. Not that I know of. You would have to do your own work on a computer to fiddle with subtitles to get what you want done.

But there should definitely be places that have films with Japanese subtitles. Do you try googling on this subject?
