Benefits Of Learning A Foreign Language

As an English(or Literature) Major, what Foreign Language should I learn/study abroad for?

I’m either going to major in English or literature, but I’m going to study abroad as well. I really enjoy French, Japanese, and German. But which of those would benefit me most, and, while studying in their respective areas, which would contribute the most to my major? I’m going to study English Literature in Cambridge for a Summer, then I want to stay in another country for a year and learn that language. Which should I do? Or should I stay with the UK and continue to study English there? Note: I’m a UCSB Freshman, my options are quite open if there’s something out-of-the-box that you’d like to mention. Much obliged! =D
By the way, I plan to teach at the college level with this major as well as write novels, whichever works best. =D

Depends on what exactly you want to do after the major….Furture wise for employment…Japanese or Chinese would be more useful in bigger businesses and would give you a much more different view to make you well rounded in language and culture. However..German or French would be more related to English literature. It all depends on what you’re planning to do with that major.
